WHAT IS TOEFL?

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is the one of two most popular standardized tests for English language proficiency in the world, that measures academic English skills the way they’re actually used in the classroom. TOEFL scores are universally used to gain admission into universities and colleges across the world for non-native English speakers.

The Education Testing Service (ETS) offers two methods for taking the TOEFL exam.

  • TOEFL iBT
  • TOEFL Essentials

TOEFL iBT

The TOEFL iBT is an online test. There used to be a three-skills paper-based test, but it was recently discontinued in favour of the TOEFL iBT. The test administering authority has developed three separate TOEFL iBT test administration options so that students can select the one that is most convenient for them in light of the Covid-19 epidemic.

  • Tested on a computer at the testing facility, the TOEFL iBT.
  • Taking the TOEFL iBT Home Edition exam at home on a computer.
  • iBT TOEFL Paper Version: The two sessions include Speaking on a computer at home and Reading, Listening, and Writing on paper at a testing facility.

TOEFL ESSENTIALS

The ETS has introduced the TOEFL Essentials test to make the exam more user-friendly and simpler while maintaining a high standard that universities recognize. It’s a streamlined and quicker version of the TOEFL iBT. A personal video statement is necessary for the one and a half hour TOEFL Essentials test.
